The Great Barrier Reef, one of the natural wonders of the world, is a breathtaking and vibrant ecosystem, home to a dazzling array of marine life. And in the month of November, an incredible event takes place that is a testament to the complexity and wonder of this amazing system. Each year, as the November full moon approaches, the Great Barrier Reef waits in anticipation. It is during this time that the corals, which make up the foundation of the reef, release their sperm and eggs simultaneously in a breathtaking display of synchronicity. As the night of the full moon arrives, the water surrounding the reef becomes filled with tiny, shimmering particles, as the sperm and eggs unite to create new life. The process, known as coral spawning, is a vital part of the reef’s continued growth and evolution, as it allows for the creation of new coral colonies and the replenishment of existing ones.
